The Purpose of National NotificationsNational registrations of GMO management enable record keeping on GMO management at the national level, which represents the foundation for effective control and public notification on GMO management.
In accordance with the Management of Genetically Modified Organisms Act, the public is entitled to be informed on GMO management and to be included in the authorization procedures in accordance with this Act. The Act determines that the information on work with GMOs in a contained use, deliberate release of GMOs into the environment and placing products on the market, as well as the information on procedures and activities of ministries competent for GMO management according to this Act be public. The Act also determines that the information must be accessible in the GMO Register, which is composed of records on contained use facilities, work with GMOs in contained use, deliberate release of GMOs into the environment and placing products on the market. The component part of the GMO Register are issued certificates and permits for contained use, working with GMOs in contained use, the deliberate release of GMOs into the environment and for placing products on the market. The GMO Register is managed as a public register by the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning.
